Business executives from medicine industry to software industry have joined
forces and agreed to launch a global organization to protect IPRs in a meeting
held in London on October 4, 2005.
Among the business leaders are Steve
Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, Eric Nicoli, chairman of EMI and Bob Wright, CEO of
NBC Universal. They insisted that many countries are not making reasonable
efforts to come up with an adequate legal framework or enforce it in the fight
against counterfeiting and piracy.
“ We need an adequate legal framework
and enforcement capacity,” says Vivendi Universal chairman Jean-Rene Fourtou. He
also added “We are very far from that even in the US, and Europe is quite
worse.”
